PCCS Position Statement on Nursing Industrial Action

PCCS Position Statement on nursing industrial action

We are disappointed that NHS nurses are in the position of having to undertake industrial action in order to achieve reasonable working conditions and pay commensurate with their skills. This may affect the quality and safety of patient care. Given the critical role nurses have in healthcare delivery, there will likely be significant disruption during the forthcoming industrial action. It is important that parties get around the negotiating table as soon as possible to resolve this dispute and avoid further escalation. We support the right of our members to take industrial action while also acknowledging the potential impact of this disruption. Trusts will be responsible for managing and mitigating this disruption locally, with careful consideration of thresholds for declaration of major incidents due to unsafe staffing levels. We trust our members will uphold patient safety as the highest priority.
