PCCS Statement on Ukraine

The Paediatric Critical Care Society (PCCS) recognises the terrible suffering and violence being inflicted upon the Ukrainian people.  In particular, we condemn the attacks on children and young people that directly contravene the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and to which the Russian Federation is a signatory.

We also deplore the attacks on hospitals and health care workers which directly contravenes the Geneva convention. We wish to send a message of solidarity to all the doctors and nurses looking after the critically ill and injured children affected by this war.

War disproportionately affects children: through death, injury, disability, psychological suffering, displacement, and the loss of education, family life, and childhood.

PCCS recognises and endorses the statements put out by the European Academy of Paediatrics and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.  We appeal to all parties to provide aid and support to those in need and we call upon the Russian Federation and the international community to work together to bring a swift end to this conflict.
