Implementation Group

‍ ‍Chair – Dr Emma Alexander‍ ‍

Our Purpose‍ ‍

The UK paediatric critical care community is leading the way in performing high-quality randomised controlled trials, and generating evidence to improve the care of critically ill children that should be practice-changing worldwide. However, at present, without dedicated funding for implementation research, or implementation strategies funded within existing RCTs, and without awareness of the implementation gap within our profession, there is a risk that implementation will remain a barrier to improving outcomes among critically ill children. The purpose of this group is to provide a platform for education and research into implementation and knowledge mobilisation for the paediatric critical care community in the UK. ‍ ‍

Aims of the group‍ ‍

1.    To raise awareness of the importance of implementation and knowledge mobilisation within the paediatric critical care community in the UK‍ ‍

2.    To educate paediatric critical care professionals on evidence-based care and the theories of implementation science‍ ‍

3.    To support paediatric critical care professionals in undertaking implementation science research and applying for grants to undertake implementation science research ‍ ‍

4.    To collaborate on the development of a UK-wide implementation strategy that can be applied to trials undertaken within paediatric critical care in the UK and worldwide‍ ‍

5.    To collaborate with international implementation groups (including ECLIPSE) to prioritise implementation science ‍ ‍

6.    To improve the outcomes of critically ill children by ensuring they receive the best evidence-based care, as rapidly as possible ‍ ‍ ‍

Membership‍ ‍

Membership of this group is open to all paediatric critical care professionals (clinically active or non-clinical) who are interested in improving the care of critically ill children, and evidence-based practice. We are interested in targeting not only already research-active professionals, but professionals who are full time at the bedside and may not have an opportunity to be exposed to research, but yet want to deliver the best evidence based care.‍ ‍‍ ‍

Upcoming meetings‍ ‍

Meetings or educational events will be held at least four times per year. Contact the group leads to receive notification of upcoming meetings.
